Tuesday Morning Business Club - A Business Networking Organization to Obtain Business Leads

Meeting

Started at 7:05 am

Guest Speaker

Sheila Storm, editor of Inside Tucson Business, shared her insights about the Tucson economic development scene at the Aug. 24 meeting. Here are some of her observations/predictions:

--The next six to 12 months will bring great change to the economic development scene.

--As the result of a new nonprofit organization that is under development, she expects to see various aspects of streamlining of local economic development organizations and that, effectively, will lead to some consolidation.

--Existing business development will be a key component of future successes in economic development. Why? Existing businesses tend to create the most local job opportunities and relationships with existing businesses can lead to business recruitment opportunities as well.

--Crucial changes in the economic development arena will need to be guided by strong, new leadership in order for them to succeed.

--Economic development support will still be necessary from the private sector. The new nonprofit most likely will seek it. The question is When?
